Tristan da Cunha three-coin launch set (Two Oceans Aquarium mintmark: penguin coin, 3 x 1oz silver coins with miniature penguins in a wooden box with engraved leather inlay)

The 2026 Tristan da Cunha World Ocean Day Launch Set presents the complete three-coin story of the relationship between Cape Town and Tristan da Cunha, the world’s most remote inhabited island. Authorised by the British Royal Palace and the territory of Tristan da Cunha, this historic collection is the first coin series minted in Africa to bear the official effigy of King Charles III. It was officially launched at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town on World Oceans Day, 8 June 2026, marking a significant African numismatic achievement and celebrating the enduring connection between the Mother City and the remote South Atlantic community. The set contains all three 2026 designs. The SA Agulhas II Coin features an ancient maritime map linking Cape Town with Tristan da Cunha and honours the research and supply vessel that serves as the island’s lifeline. The Penguins Coin brings together the endangered Northern Rockhopper Penguin and the critically endangered African Penguin, accompanied by two minted brass miniature penguins that fit precisely into the coin, creating a unique interactive feature. The Whale & Albatross Coin depicts Tristan da Cunha in the distance, a critically endangered Tristan Albatross in flight and the tail of a Southern Right Whale breaking the surface of the South Atlantic. Together, the three designs tell a unified story of connection, exploration, endangered wildlife and marine conservation. Each coin is struck by The Cape Mint from 1 troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver in an Antique Proof finish, giving the set a combined silver weight of 3 troy ounces. The coins are issued as non-circulating legal tender of Tristan da Cunha and are housed in a wooden presentation box. Exclusive to the launch set, the Penguin coin carries the Two Oceans Aquarium mintmark and is accompanied by the two minted brass miniature penguins. Only 222 launch sets exist worldwide, a number chosen not only to reflect the island's population but also to commemorate the 222 years since Cape Town first used the Seal of Cape Town during the Batavian Republic. No additional sets will be produced once sold out.
